I joined Barkisland Primary School in 2012 as the new Deputy Headteacher and, at the time, the new Reception teacher . It has always been my ambition to work in a church village primary school as I love the atmosphere a Christian school brings to enhance children's lives.
Previous to here I taught in Rochdale and during my early career I was based in Manchester. Both of the schools in these authorities were very challenging, so to come to a school where the children love to learn and parents are extremely supportive is like a dream come true. I have experience of teaching children from 3-11 years old and have enjoyed each year group. In addition to my teaching, I was part of a small team of Lead Teachers for the local authority. I was a Lead Teacher for English and Assessment for Learning. This meant I could help other teachers and schools who were struggling in these areas.
I have a passion for English, in particular reading. I believe if children are taught how to love to read, then this opens a whole world for them and can have a massive impact on their writing.
As well as my Deputy role, I co-ordinate English, Computing (ICT), Curriculum and Assessment.
Outside of school I love to read, tinkle on the piano, spend time with my family and dog, explore, travel and shop!
