  • The Archbishop of York visits Deanhead Church

Anniversary Service at Deanhead

Sunday 21st June 2015

Some of our children, Miss Haigh, Mr Garland  and myself  were fortunate to have been  invited to the anniversary service yesterday at Deanhead. The church was celebrating its 400th anniversary of worship, with the current church building having been there since 1865.

Our children had been asked to assemble a Time Capsule, looking suspiciously like a Kilner jar, and so filled it with lots of interesting artefacts. They described current technology which might be of interest to the people of the future. Photographs and descriptions of the Reflection Areas in our classrooms were included which will paint a picture of how we worship God in our school today. The lucky archaeologists of the future will even find a Barkisland Core Values badge and an explanation of the ideas behind our values.

The service was presided over by the Most Reverend Dr Sentamu, the Archbishop of York with Rev Chris and Rev Carol helping him. He is an inspiration Christian and leader of the Church of England and the children were fortunate to talk with him as he blessed the stone which will cover their Time Capsule. You will notice from the photographs that he was proudly wearing our Core Values badge on his cassock.

We would like to thank the congregation of Deanhead for including our school in this special occasion and particularly to Mr and Mrs Russell for inviting us.
